CSS layout viewport

N/A × N/ACSS px

This is the page layout area excluding scrollbars. It is usually the most useful number for responsive CSS and breakpoint debugging.

CSS pixels are logical units

Screen and window APIs normally report CSS pixels. OS scaling can make those dimensions smaller than a panel’s hardware grid.

Zoom is not separable

Browsers do not provide a dependable, cross-browser page-zoom percentage. DPR can combine density, display scaling, and page zoom.

Hardware stays private

This page cannot verify native panel resolution, physical inches, PPI, monitor model, calibration, or which pixel grid the OS selected.

Source and method

Values come from standard, read-only browser properties defined by CSSOM View and related web APIs. Unsupported values are shown as “Not exposed” instead of being guessed.

  • document.documentElement.clientWidth/clientHeight for the scrollbar-excluding layout viewport.
  • window.innerWidth/innerHeight, outerWidth/outerHeight, and visualViewport for window and visible-page context.
  • screen.width/height, availWidth/availHeight, orientation, color depth, pixel depth, and devicePixelRatio for exposed display context.
